Barham’s Ozark Beef Opens Store in Conway, AR

Conway, Ark. (August 7, 2024) — After five years of operating online and at the Conway Farmers Market, Barham’s Ozark Beef has opened a physical store located at 1085 Morningside Drive in Conway, Arkansas. The farmers’ market style store offers all-natural, pasture raised beef that was raised on sweet potatoes, chopped corn, and improved pasture. Store hours will be 3:00pm – 6:00pm Wednesday – Friday and 12:00pm – 5:00pm Sunday. Barham’s Ozark Beef will continue to participate in the Conway Farmers Market each Saturday at 150 Amity Road in Conway until the market concludes September 28. Saturday hours starting in October will be 10:00am – 6:00pm.

“Finding a source for beef raised in Arkansas is becoming difficult as more ranchers leave the industry. With the droughts of 2022 and 2023, some ranchers were forced to shut down their operation due to a lack of feed and water. Since then, the amount of beef cattle available to the market has decreased and cattle prices have increased substantially. As a result, many ranchers have sold their herds at local sale barns to take advantage of historically high cattle prices.” said Ed Linck, Chief Beef Snob at Barham’s Ozark Beef. “We opened the store to ensure our neighbors have an option for high quality, Arkansas raised beef.”

Farmers’ Market Style Store

The Barham’s Ozark Beef store is not your typical store. In fact, the storefront is exactly what you would expect at a farmers’ market. Business is conducted under a canopy tent, and the beef is stored in a freezer trailer next to the tent. The outdoor store is located on the south end of the Haynes Ace Hardware parking lot. Barham’s Ozark Beef is no stranger to Haynes Ace Hardware. They have set up there occasionally over the past three years.

“We have loved having Barham’s Ozark Beef set up from time to time here at Haynes Ace Hardware. When Ed would ask for a particular date, we would provide a location in front of our store so they could serve their clients. We saw it as an opportunity to enhance our customers’ shopping experience while helping a local small business grow their customer base. It was a win-win for everyone.” said Haynes Ace Hardware owner, Brian Porterfield. “When Ed shared their need for a more permanent store location, we quickly offered a solution that worked for them.”

Shift in Business Strategy

Barham’s Ozark Beef began as bulk beef operation selling quarters, halves, and wholes to friends and family. They have gradually shifted to include selling individual cuts of beef at the Conway Farmers Market, online at http://www.beefsnob.com, and now at their physical store. In December 2023, Barham’s Ozark Beef launched a new product called Beef Snob Snack Sticks, which are now available in two flavors: Original and Jalapeno. The healthy snacks are sold through Barham’s Ozark Beef’s physical and online stores, as well as select retailers around Central Arkansas. Conway retailers offering the snacks sticks include Haynes Ace Hardware, Baker Drug, Triple C Sales, and Bell Urban Farm.
