We had a really cool opportunity to fill the freezers at Bethlehem House in Conway with Barham’s Ozark Beef. Bethlehem House assists 100+ people a year in their journey out of homelessness. They not only provide them a bed, but they encourage, equip, and motivate them to improve their lives. The non-profit recently receive the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Grant, which is a FEMA-funded program authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987. The program supplements and expands the ongoing work of local nonprofit organizations to provide shelter, food, and supportive services to individuals and families who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, hunger and/or homelessness.
How did we get involved? Our Chief Beef Snob, Ed Linck, is a past president of the Conway Rotary Club. His presidency was followed by Aimee Prince, who is now the Executive Director of Bethlehem House. Through the years, Ed and Aimee have worked on various projects and fundraisers, which eventually led them to the EFSP Grant. With the grant, Barham’s Ozark Beef was able to fill their freezers with 400 LB of ground beef and 50 LB of roast. The new Director of Culinary Programs and Operations, Jill McCollum, is excited to cook with beef sourced directly from an Arkansas ranch.
It’s an honor to be involved with the grant and the help feed folks who will greatly benefit from a healthier diet. Thank you to the Bethlehem House for all the amazing things they do for the people in our community who need help the most.
